Good Friday
Reflection
2026

Our Lent Reflection course concentrated or various types of sacrifice and how we as Christians can appreciate how sacrifice applies to the Christian life.

This culminated in our Good Friday evening service of reflection. Contemplating the sacrifice of Christ and it's meaning for Christians and the whole world.

A sevice of all the senses, audio, visual, smells and touch. It was a service of quiet worsphip, prayer and meditation. Spiritually uplifting and prepared us for the glorious celebration of Easter Sunday.

OSRO4529.JPG

January 2026 saw in the New Year with our fourth annual Burns night.

There was the formalities of addressing the haggis, the immortal memory.

Scottish County music and dancing along with a three course meal of scottish fayre.

It is always a very popular night with church members and the local community with a waiting list but there is never any cancellations.

We may need to build an extension to the Church.

Coffe With Santa

In December we held our annual Coffee Morning with Santa.

Tea, coffe biscuits and mince pies. A tombola and of course a visit from Santa with a gift for every child from 9 months to 90 years.

The 2025 Coffee Morning was especially well attended by children from the village and santa had to have his elves work overtime to make more presents.

A bif thankyou to TESCO, Ashby de la Zouch for donating the selection boxes.

International Congregationalism: Brasil

We were delighted to host the Reverand Gabriel Simplice and his wife Jessica to lead our service in May. After an exchange of UK Congregational members to Brazil who visited Rev Gabriel's Churches in Patos and Joao Pessoa to see at first hand the work they were carrying out, feeding the homeless and needy, taking care of street children.

We thank God for him and his congregations mission work.

Rev Gabriel attended our National Assembly in Nottingham and we were fortunate to have him preach at our Sunday Service.

40 Years Of Ecumenicism

A recent special event was held in our church.

As there is no Roman Catholic Church In Markfield  Catholics have been using our church to celebrate Mass. In May we celebrated the 40th aniversary of our ecumenical relationship.

On behalf of the church our Minister, Rev Rob presented Father Gabriel with a statue of the Virgin Mary to adorne their service.

Rev Rob stated that although there may be differences in theology and doctrine we are united in the love of Christ. Though we are many we are one body, the body of Christ.

Father Gabriel was clearly moved by the gift which came as a complete surprise to him and the congregation, stating that it was a very thoughtful gift considering how much Mary means to the Catholic faith.

After the mass there was a celebration with refreshments, samosas and cake.
